"This is an Old School style course, the way they used to be" stated event promoter Mart Geary at the riders meeting. "Terrain will be mostly singletrack up, down, sideways and through the trees of the ski slopes (virgin terrain)" understated the event flyer.
Well, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that if Mart says it's tough it's tough! And so went the Terry Peak Enduro, a twenty mile loop consisting of about 90% virgin singletrack, with an extra "tough" section thrown in just to keep the "A" riders entertained. Add in a bit of pre-event rain and you've got almost all the elements needed for a thorough test of endurance, the essence of the sports namesake "Enduro."

While endurance would be the deciding factor for many, in the AA class speed is necessary for success and today it was Yamaha YZ250 mounted Bernie Frederick with the best combination of both, hauling in his first overall win of the year. Ian Blythe kept it close through the first two special tests, giving a point inthe first test and gaining it back in the second, leaving the speedsters tied at six. It was in the second half of the race where endurance took over and the super fit Frederick was up to the task, gapping the Vickery Motorsports, offroadchampions.com, Moose Racing backed Blythe by two points in each of the two final tests for the win. "In the end, the race came down to who was the toughest, Bernie definitely had the edge today," noted Blythe, adding "I hope Mart puts on another race here, he has great terrain." Billy Radecky and his Kawasaki rounded out the AA podium, a whopping 22 points off the pace of Frederick.

Open A rider Brian Fortman narrowly topped the A's, finishing on 37.2 to the 37.4 of 250 class winner Allan Phillips, while Cody Schafer topped the Four-Strokes for the third time this year. Dan Buchheit traveled south from Chadron Nebraska to top the B's with an Open Class win on his KTM, just 29 points dropped, a solid five points ahead of Senior Class winner Tracey Smith who narrowly edged Vet winner Forest Smith for second overall. The C division win went to another Nebraska rider, this time Brian Specht who topped the Vets along the way with a 21 point score. Darrin Parkin kept Specht honest, giving up just a single point in the first test for second in the Vets. Ryan Masant took the measure of the Open Class, finishing on 22 while JR Riggins also turned in an impressive finish, topping the Senior C's with just 23 points dropped.
